The Foundry is now twenty-five years old, started by partners David Quay and Freda Sack in a small studio in Archer Street, a rather seedy back street in Soho, London.
In those twenty-five years The Foundry has built up a library of fonts families of recognized high quality that are used by designers, advertising agencies, businesses and corporations around the globe.
Although I have been instrumental in many of designs they could not have achieved the level of excellence without partner Freda Sack and in the last eight years the technical and design expertise of Stuart de Rozario.
The Foundry has been through several technical changes: first drawing the whole typeface by hand and having those highly precise drawings digitizing by outside technical experts in Ikarus, then learning Fontographer in-house and doing it ourselves, lastly with new cross platform OpenType format discarding Fontographer in favour of FontLab. We now have to find away of contending with screen fonts which are becoming the next big issue, how to license them and control their use.
All the publicity, adverts, fliers I have designed and produced. Each typeface has its own chosen unique colour that reflect the atmosphere of the typeface, this is carried through to the publicity as well.
All the typefaces shown have a brief description, some have notes adding more background information, hopefully in the future notes will be added to all the typefaces.
If you want to see the whole font family and character sets or license the fonts please contact Monotype. As from 1st January 2014 they have taken over selling The Foundry library.
